This is what my mother wore when she went skating as a little girl – aren’t they just lovely?
To me the coat and skirt are evocative of a lovely winter’s day, when the sun shines just right, and the ice is smooth and you are skating like an ice princess and feeling as if you are part of a fairy tale.
The reality of myself in an ice rink was something else! But in my dreams this is what I wore, and it was lovely. And I did pirouettes.
I can still remember looking at these clothes when I was little and dreaming myself away. I never got to wear them, but perhaps my daughter still can? We’ll have to try them on and see if they fit – but not for skating! They are somehow not as practical as I imagined when I was little, but just perfect for a photo shoot in the snow (if the snow stays here – at the moment it’s raining!)
