It feels as if I’m vacationing in my own home! Every day feels like a new adventure, like the sun is shining even when it’s rainy, and like there is something new to discover around each corner. I love it!

My new craftroom has been a great addition to our house. The whole family gets so much mileage out of this one room: it is now my place to work when the husband is cooking and the kids are playing in the living room or dining room. We eat breakfast here and have afternoon tea. The kids get to do their homework on a table next to mine and they get to play with their barbies in this room. We also finally have storage for the kids’ jackets and shoes, and it definitely helps to bring the stress levels down! Above all there are so many nice things to look at in this room that you can’t help getting inspired and calmed!

The green walls with their flowers really work well, as well as all my granny interior decorating. The whole room feels as if you step into some old granny’s place when you were little – I even have a ticking clock on the wall. It doesn’t exactly look like the old houses that I used  to visit when little, but it sort of reflects my memory of those places. Patterned carpets, a ticking clock, loads of stuff everywhere, a mishmash of colours – everywhere something exciting, something new, and old fine things mixed with plain ordinary ones.

I can definitely see now where I get most of my inspiration – from my childhood grannies! Which makes my book make more sense. Some of my kids still have a hard time with the booktitle: Teatime at Aunt Ninette’s, because they don’t think I’m an old aunt! No, I’m not, but that’s where I draw much of my inspiration. You take an old granny’s house with all its knickknacks, add a few decades worth of memories and experiences and the whole thing becomes something else – an old beloved thing seen through the lens of today. And that is my vision!

I love it, and so does the rest of the family also! We love to walk into this room and then just stand there enjoying it!
