Work in progress: DIY Garden Portal

023

This is the newest project in the garden – a garden portal. Beyond this lies my new kitchen garden, kitchen garden nr 2 or our backyard garden as we usually call it. It definitely needs a new name!

I was planning on making a portal out of a few old rusty mattress skeletons, but I only got my hands on one and didn’t want to wait a few years to find more discarded mattresses, so instead I put together this portal out of a brush of lilacs that we removed.

This is definitely a work in progress!

At the moment the portal looks like this, but I look forward to adding to it when we cut the apple trees or the rest of the lilacs. And maybe add an odd bit of ornament or two.

I took my chances and replanted a clematis that was growing in the wrong place in the garden.

This is definitely the right place for a ethereal clematis to grow! It will add just the right contrast to the gnarly tree stems. Hopefully it can stand being moved in the middle of summer…

The garden is becoming more and more what I envisioned in my head!

A mixture of Tasha Tudor’s garden plus the vision I had of the Secret Garden when I was little.

Plus maybe a little bit of our dream of sometimes owning a house in Skåne! It’s mainly the main kitchen garden that looks like that (raised beds, surrounded by buildings on all sides, gravel) – this is more my Secret Garden, with a secret portal into an unknown world.
