A visit from the UK

We have had two such fantastic days with our new friends from the UK!025 (3)

Earlier this summer I got an e-mail from Jo asking if she and a couple of photographers could come and visit us and take some pictures for her secret project – you can’t imagine how thrilled I was when I got that e-mail!

014This week the visit actually took place (we were kind of thinking it wouldn’t happen – you seldom hear of stylists and photographers coming all the way from the UK to our little corner of Finland just to take some pictures!) and we had such a fun time!

The kids were occupied elsewhere, so I got a couple of days that really felt like a holiday – you know, that kind of holiday when you have no worries in the world, and you meet new people who look at things a little bit differently than everyone you are surrounded by usually, and who to really cap it up are just showering you with compliments and loving every DIY-thing you have in your garden and house!

056

Jo & co brought with them a few props bought at the market square in Turku, but they were horrified about the prices here in Finland! As were we when we moved back – things like groceries and flowers and restaurants are really expensive around here, so it is perhaps a bit surprising that not more people jump on the DIY bandwagon and grow more vegetables like we do. Maybe we are part of starting a trend like that here in Finland – I would love that!

064

It was so much fun watching Jo and the photographers James & Rita at work!

059

It took ages to take just one picture because everything had to be just right. I tried to look at the team at work and perhaps learn something just by looking! (and sometimes asking – they were so gracious and helpful, so now I feel so inspired to just take lots and lots of different pictures and try new stuff and angles!)

026

It was also fun to see how Jo styled our home. Mostly she just kept things like I had left them, which I took as a compliment! Other times she arranged things in a way I have sometimes toyed with, but kind of haven’t had the self confidence to do, and other times I got to see some completely new arrangements.

All of them loved my craft room and all the DIY:s in our home!

It was so much fun – I could do this every week, all year long, especially if the people visiting you are as nice as these three were!

The dining room rug got changed a bit for one of our old handwoven more colorful rugs – I love it that they liked my grandmother’s old rugs so much that they wanted to have them in many pictures!

099

After taking the picture they had a look at it on their computer and then changed some details, removing or adding stuff, changing the camera angle or an angle of the furniture. It was so interesting to be able to really study the process!

128

My new chair got to be in a picture also! I was finished with the chair the evening before they came – it is so nice to have a project like this as a deadline for all those projects that you sort of postpone indefinitely. Procrastination – I am not that prone to it, but it happens!

146

We also had some lovely discussions over tea and cakes – I am not that fond of cakes, but the rest of my family are so they were thrilled to have an excuse to buy some! (we didn’t have the time to make anything ourselves – maybe next time…!)

They also took some pictures in the garden, which showed itself from a pretty good side those two days (the grass might need some photoshopping! It has been such a dry summer)

078

Rita got to play angel in our garden (or was it peacock?) – oh, the glamorous life of a photographer/assistant!

092

And I really got to enjoy myself, watching three charming creative people at work!

Thank you so much guys, for your visit! Please feel free to visit us anytime you like!

p.s. kort på svenska – mer på kommande nästa år när Jo avslöjar sitt hemliga projekt! men du lär nog skall få höra om det här på bloggen!
